Grandfather Mountain - Exit MP 305.1


Driving Directions The entrance to Grandfather Mountain is located on US 221, two miles north of Linville, North Carolina, and one mile south of the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 305. To get more directions go to the link below and you are on your way.

Chimney Rock Park - Exit MP 384.7


Exit the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 384.7 near Asheville onto Highway 74A. Stay on 74A East for 20 miles and the Park entrance will be on the right. Obviously this is just from the Parkway but if you visit the site from the link below you can get extensive directions to the park.

Linn Cove Viaduct - MP 304.6


The Linn Cove Viaduct at milepost 304.6, the most complicated concrete bridge ever built, snaking around boulder-strewn Linn Cove in a sweeping "S" curve. It is actually on the Parkway so you can get there by either going to Blowing Rock and hitting Hwy 221 North to Linville, get on the Parkway going south or get on the Parkway in Blowing Rock and go north. You will come to it and it is hard to miss. More info on the Viaduct go to link below.

Biltmore Estate - Exit MP 388.9


If you are making a scenic drive on the Parkway just exit at MP 388.9 and cruise on in to the estate. Biltmore Estate is an easy drive from most locations in the southeast. It's nestled in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina with major interstates nearby. Here's everything you need to plan your journey and to explore both Asheville and the estate. Moses H. Cone Memorial Park - MP 292 - 295


The manor house is both a good starting point and a highlight of any visit. The park can be found by going to Blowing Rock and getting on Hwy. 221 to Linville and getting on the Parkway or from Linville to Blowing Rock and getting on the Parkway. Craggy Gardens - MP 364


Craggy Gardens. These high elevation summits are home to the most spectacular floral display along the 469-mile parkway corridor. Mid to late June is usually prime time for viewing the pink and purple blooms of rhododendron that blanket much of the Craggies. Located at MP 364 you can get there by going south on the Parkway from Mt. Mitchell or by Hwy 40 to Asheville to the Parkway and head north. For more information on the park go to the link below.

Lake Powhatan - MP 393.7


At Blue Ridge Parkway milepost 393.7, take the exit ramp to NC 191 and travel west. Go .3 mile to Bent Creek Ranch Road (NC 3480); a Forest Service sign will mark the turn. Turn left and continue .3 mile until the road forks. Go left onto Wesley Branch Road (SR 3484). The recreation area entrance is 2.3 miles ahead.

Cherokee, N.C.


Want some beautiful imagrey? Visit Cherokee and see the Native Americans and their wilderness. There are several ways to get there and this is the first. Just visit the link below to the site and go to the bottom left to the directions to get more. From Asheville, NC – approximately one hour. Take I-40 west to Exit 27 (the Great Smoky Mountains Expressway). Continue West on US 74 past Waynesville, Sylva and Dillsboro to the Cherokee Exit. US Hwy 441 will take you to Cherokee.

Brinegar Cabin and Loom - MP 238.5


Brinegar Cabin was settled by Martin Brinegar in 1885 and occupied until the land was purchased for construction of the Parkway in 1935. The cabin which still stands today has an over one century old loom that is still used in craft demonstrations in the summer months. Brinegar Cabin, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, serves as a gateway to Doughton Park which hugs the parkway for six miles (238 to 244). Doughton Park , originally known as The Bluffs, is named after Congressman Robert L. Doughton, a longtime supporter of the Parkway. There are numerous trails within the park, and two trails , Cedar Ridge (4.3 miles) and Bluff Mountain (7.5 miles), begin at Brinegar Cabin.

Mount Mitchell State Park - MP 355


Mount Mitchell State Park is located in Yancey County, 33 miles north of Asheville off the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker #355. From Asheville, take the Blue Ridge Parkway north to mile marker #355 and turn left onto NC 128, which leads to the park. Winter conditions may cause delays or closures on the parkway.

Linville Falls - MP 316.4


The road to the falls only turns one way off the BRP at mile post 316.4, and dead ends after a mile and a half at the visitors center. If you are coming via I-40 west of Marion, get off on the Hwy 221 exit in Marion and head north. Take 221 all the way to the Blue Ridge Parkway, head north on the BRP and the right turn for Linville Falls is about a mile down. Coming from east of Morganton on I-40, you can take exit 103 which is Hwy 64. Head east, back towards Morganton. Follow the 64 east truck and by-pass route until you get to Hwy 181 north. Take this left turn and take 181 north to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Turn left (south) on the BRP and drive a few miles to the left turn for the Linville Falls parking.

Mt. Pisgah on the Blue Ridge Parkway


Mt. Pisgah on the Blue Ridge Parkway and extends on both sides of the Parkway. It is located roughly between the towns of Brevard, Waynesville and Asheville, NC. This area is especially noted for easy access to many beautiful waterfalls, wonderful hiking and camping opportunities, the Cradle of Forestry, and more. The district also includes the Shining Rock and Middle Prong Wilderness areas.
